Tools

  • Search Nebraska political money entities (search_entities): Find committees, PACs, parties, ballot committees and organizations in Nebraska FEC/NADC filings by name or ID, with their totals for one period (default: current cycle). Organizations and candidate committees only.
  • Get one entity’s money summary (get_entity_summary): Receipts, disbursements, receipt categories, top organizational funders and top committee recipients for one entity in one period (default: current cycle). Use an id from search_entities (e.g. "fec-C00571703" or "nadc-10009").
  • Get a candidate’s funding sources (get_candidate_funding): Candidate committee totals, receipt categories, top organizational funders, ActBlue/WinRed in-state vs out-of-state aggregates, and independent expenditures supporting or opposing the candidate, for one period (default: current cycle).
  • Get independent expenditures in a race (get_ie_by_race): Independent expenditures (outside spending) in one Nebraska race for one period (default: current cycle): each spender, the candidate or measure, support/oppose as stated in the filing, amounts, and totals by stance. race = NE-00 (U.S. Senate), NE-01, NE-02, NE-03, or text such as "Governor", "State Legislature - 14", "Omaha - Mayor", "Measure 442".
  • Latest independent-expenditure filings (latest_filings): Most recent FEC 24/48-hour independent-expenditure filings in Nebraska federal races (current cycle only; amended and superseded filings excluded), newest first.
  • Plains Ledger data status (get_data_status): When Plains Ledger data was last synced (CT), which sources failed or are not yet published, which periods are available, and the connector limits. Call this before answering time-sensitive questions.

Every answer includes the period, the as-of time (Central Time), the source, a filing link for each figure, the matching Plains Ledger page, and notes on any missing sources.

Example prompts

  • Who spent independent expenditures in the NE-02 House race this cycle? Show support and oppose totals with filing links.
  • Summarize the Nebraska Farm Bureau PAC’s receipts and top recipients for 2025–26.
  • Compare ActBlue and WinRed in-state vs out-of-state totals for the U.S. Senate candidates in 2026.
  • What are the latest 24/48-hour outside-spending filings in Nebraska since October 20?
  • When was Plains Ledger last updated, and are any sources missing?

Rules and limits

  • No individual donors. Plains Ledger does not publish individual donors. Individual giving appears only as totals. Candidates appear in their role as candidates.
  • One period at a time. Each request covers one cycle (for example 2026 = 2025–26) or one year, and defaults to the current cycle. A flow counts only if every year behind it is in the period; multi-year flows are never split. See the methodology.
  • Same wording for every side. Labels come from the filings (support, oppose, party as filed), with the same template for every party and committee.
  • Size limits. Up to 25 search results, 50 outside-spending rows and 50 latest filings per request, and about 60 requests per minute. This is not a bulk-export service.
  • Attribution. When you publish an answer, credit: “Source: Plains Ledger (plainsledger.org), from FEC/NADC filings”, and link the filing.
  • NADC records are public and free to the public (Neb. Rev. Stat. § 49-14,132). Public filing data; not legal advice; verify at the linked filing.
